Presented at Travers Island for the 220 Yard Hurdle, 13 September 1902. AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION OF THE UNITED STATES, female figure alighting left atop radiant wheel, holding wreath / 220 YDS HURDLE/ Travers Island/ SEPT 13–1902 engraved at center of wreath adorned with CHAM PION and various sporting equipment; winged shoe above. Brown surfaces, with original attached loop, a few minor edge knocks, spots of discoloration. EF.

An article in the Brooklyn newspaper, The Standard Union from 14 September 1902 indicates that the 200 yard hurdle was won by H(arry) L. Hillman of the Knickerbocker Athletic Club. The article also indicates that the races were held in a torrential downpour. Hillman would go on to win three gold medals at the 1903 St. Louis Games. He would later go on to coach the Dartmouth track team and U.S. Olympic teams for the 1920 and 1924 Olympics. Hillman died in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1945.
