ROMAN. Honorius, with Theodosius II(?). Joint reign, AD 408-423. PB Seal (19mm, 6.84 g, 12h). Facing pearl-diademed, draped busts / Victory advancing right, holding wreath or crown in either hand. RLS –; Rostowzew & Prou 3; Récamier –; Ficorini pl. VII, 2 (with cross on obverse; attributed to Justin I & Justinian I); cf. CNG E-193, lot 248 (same; attributed to Justin I & Justinian I); cf. Gorny & Mosch 142, lot 3336 (same; attributed to Valentinian I, with Valens); cf. Naumann 42, lot 1009 (same); Gorny & Mosch Online Auction 267, lot 3869 = Naumann 90, lot 697. Rough surfaces. Fine.

This rare type has variously been attributed to Honorius, with Theodosius II; Valentian I, with Valens; Theodosius I, with Arcadius; and Justin I & Justinian. The Victory on the reverse is a common theme for Imperial seals of the early Byzantine period.
