LIBERTAS AMERICANA, bust of Liberty left, with liberty cap on pole over shoulder; below, 4 JUIL 1776 / MAKE YOUR GROCER/ GET/ DOBBINS/ ELECTRIC SOAP/ THE BEST OF ALL/ I L CRAGIN & CO./ PHILADA, PA. Rulau Pa-Ph 833; Miller 113. VF. Obverse type derived from the famous French medal of American independence.

Rualu notes: “The ‘electric’ in the soap’s name made use of the popular interest in the mysteries and powers of electricity and implied that the soap was powerfull and fast... It apparently had a high ph (alkalinity) to give it ‘sting.’”
