Albert R. Frey – Set of two (2) New York Numismatic Club Presidential Medals in Silver (38mm, 28.76g, 12h) and Bronze (38mm, 28.50g, 12h). Artist: Jonathan M. Swanson. No date (1921). ALBERT/ R • FREY in two lines in left field, JMS in elaborate ligated signature on bust truncation, mature, mustachioed bust in suit with celluloid collar and bow tie left; a luxuriant oak spray (as a nod to the ANS) forms a background to the portrait / NEW YORK NUMISMATIC CLUB • ORGANIZED 1908 •, reverse 2: torch-bearer in Classical tunic holds a coin whose bold rays enlighten ancient civilizations. IoC p. 169. Toned, lightest cabinet friction on the highpoints. About as made. No serial number on the silver medal. Serial number 7 on the bronze medal. Two (2) medals in lot. 12 silver and 29 bronze medals were struck.

Albert R. Frey was the author of The Dated European Coinage before 1501 and The Dictionary of Numismatic Names. He served as ANA president from 1903 to 1906 and editor of The Numismatist until December 1911.
