ANGLO-SAXON, Continental Sceattas. Circa 715/20-740. AR Sceatt (12mm, 1.14 g). Series E, Secondary ('Kloster Barthe') phase, sub-variety a. Uncertain mint in Frisia. ‘Porcupine’ right; two pellets and Δ shape (partially at edge) in field / Standard with highly degraded VICO; three pellets and three lines in margin. Cf. M&OdV 717–9; Abramson 88-30 (p. 298); MEC 8 Series Ee; North 45; SCBC 790A. Lightly toned, minor marks. VF.

This is from the earliest of the Secondary phase of Series E, where the reverse contains a still-recognizable derivative form of VICO. Unlike the obverses of M&OdV 717–9, though, the obverse here is much closer to the VICO var. 1 style as found on M&OdV 177–210.
