BHM 509 // Settlement of the British at Bombay and the East India Company’s victory over a French squadron, 1804. BHM 567 // The Death of Sir John Moore, 1809. BHM 666 // The lines of Torres Vedras and the British army on the Tagus, 1810/11. BHM 713 // General Lord Hill and the Battle of Almaraz, 1812. BHM 727 // The Battle of Toulouse, 1814. In 1820, James Mudie of London published a set of 40 medals, each commemorating various British victories in the Napoleonic Wars. The medals were offered in bronze, silver, and gold, and could be collected in a red or green leather book-shaped case. Today, the medals form a popular collecting series and are often included in collections of contemporary French medals. Complete sets are rare, particularly in silver.

The present lot contains a number of cliché strikes of the medals from the National Medals Series. As some exhibit die rust, they were likely struck after the main issue of medals to subscribers.
