Commodus. AD 177-192. Æ Sestertius (28mm, 22.86 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 187. Laureate head right / The Three Monetae standing left, each holding scales and cornucopia. RIC III 500. Dark green patina, light roughness. In NGC encapsulation 5872729-084, graded VF, Strike: 4/5, Surface: 3/5.

Although common on medallions of the 3rd century, depictions of the Three Monetae appear infrequently on coinage. The coin offered here is the earliest depiction of them.
