SELEUKID EMPIRE. Seleukos II Kallinikos. 246-225 BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 16.39 g, 12h). Uncertain mint in Commagene or Mesopotamia. Diademed head right / Apollo Delphios standing right, holding arrow, leaning on tripod; monograms to outer left and outer right. SC Ad182.2 var. (monograms reversed); Houghton, New 1–5 var. (same); HGC 9, 303kk. Toned, roughness and scratches. VF. An apparently unpublished variety.

From the Sigmund Collection.

The obverse die used for this coin was certainly engraved by the same hand as Houghton, New, die A2. Interestingly, not only are the monograms in the reverse position to that of Ad183.2, the monograms themselves are retrograde.

Closing Date and Time: 3 November 2021 at 11:20:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 18% buyer’s fee.
