David Hendin states that it is generally, but incorrectly, believed that the first Judaea Capta coins commemorating the Roman defeat of the Jews in AD 70 were struck by Vespasian. Experts have always acknowledged that during his short reign Vitellius issued the first Judaea Capta coins. The Victory reverse when associated with a palm tree is a clear reference to victory over Judaea.
