Duplessy 1013A (for similar legend on 1556); Ciani –; Friedberg 797. Clipped, doubled. Good Fine. Struck from an obverse die intended for a Giulio. Very rare – only three total in CoinArchives, none of this legend variety.

When Siena was conquered by the forces of Medici-controlled Florence, a group of Sienese refugees fled to Montalcino. The city held out until 1559, when it was ultimately conquered and subsumed into the territories of Florence.
