CILICIA, Selinus-Traianopolis. Diadumenian. As Caesar, AD 217-218. Æ (25mm, 10.37 g, 7h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Zeus seated left on low basis, holding thunderbolt and scepter, within tetrastyle temple façade; ΔIO in pediment . Levante, Selinus –; SNG BN –; SNG Levante –. Black patina, flan chip. Good VF. Very rare and seemingly unique.

Returning to Rome after his eastern campaigns, Trajan died at Selinus in early August AD 117. The city gained considerable fame as a result, erecting a temple to the deified emperor and even changing its name to “Trajanopolis”.
