Galba. AD 68-69. Æ Sestertius (36mm, 25.13 g, 7h). Rome mint, 3rd officina. Struck circa October AD 68. Laureate head right; c/m: uncertain / Concordia seated left, holding branch and transverse scepter. Cf. RIC I 380. Brown patina, roughness, legends obscure. VF. Overstruck on an early Julio-Claudian sestertius.

From the Richard Baker Collection.

A personal favorite of the collector: Here we have a sestertius used by three separate rulers. First, it was a Juli-Claudian sestertius. Second, it was countermarked with that distinct size and shape rectangle that most likely contained NCAPR. Third, it was completely overstruck as a sestertius of Galba. My personal favorite of all my sestertii.
