L. Aemilius Lepidus Paullus. 62 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.52 g, 6h). Rome mint. Veiled and diademed head of Concordia right / L. Aemilius Paullus to right of trophy; Perseus and his sons to left. Crawford 415/1; Sydenham 926; Aemilia 10. VF, toned, light surface roughness.

From the Ken Bressett Collection. Purchased from Corbitt & Hunter in 1979 for @ $33.

This coin commemorates the victories of the moneyer's supposed ancestor, L. Aemilius Paullus (in fact they were only vaguely related). The word Ter on the reverse refers to L. Aemilius Paullus' three triumphs: in Spain in 190, Liguria in 181 and at the famous battle of Pydna in 168, when the Romans extinguished the independent Macedonian kingdom.

The final winners of all Keystone 6 lots will be determined at the online sale that will be held on 11 March 2022. Session Three, presenting part 1 of the Ken Bressett Collection, featuring Roman coinage, will be held Friday evening, 11 March 2022 beginning at 7:00 PM ET.

Winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer's fee for bids placed on this website and 22.50% for all others.
