Tacitus. AD 275-276. Antoninianus (22mm, 3.87 g, 12h). Rome mint, 6th officina. 1st emission, November AD 275. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Mars standing left, holding branch, shield, and spear; A in exergue. RIC 83. Good Fine, some silvering. Rare.

From the Ken Bressett Collection. Ex Walter Sheridan 2003 @ $25.

This coin is from Tacitus' rare first issue at Rome, the mint city closest to his location at the time of his accession. No coins of this issue were known until the discovery of the Venèra hoard, which contained five examples. Since that time, only a few more have come to light, but enough to establish the makeup of the entire emission, with all officinae represented, A-Z

The final winners of all Keystone 6 lots will be determined at the online sale that will be held on 11 March 2022. Session Three, presenting part 1 of the Ken Bressett Collection, featuring Roman coinage, will be held Friday evening, 11 March 2022 beginning at 7:00 PM ET.

Winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer's fee for bids placed on this website and 22.50% for all others.
