C. Fabius C.f. Hadrianus. 102 BC. AR Denarius (20mm, 3.86 g, 5h). Rome mint. Turreted and veiled head of Cybele right / Victory, holding goad and reins, driving galloping biga right; below horses, X with pellets above and below and stork standing right. Crawford 322/1b; CNR 19/43-44 var. (pellets in control mark); Sydenham 590; Fabia 14; RBW –. Toned, flan flaws. VF. Rare control mark variety with pellets above and below X.

The control marks on this issue are known without pellets, and with pellets one one of the four sides, and with pellets on top and bottom or left and right. This particular variant, with pellets above and below the control mark X, is not listed in CNR, but is known from two specimens in the Schafer photofile.
