GALATIA, Tavium. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ (29mm, 12.51 g, 1h). Laureate and draped bust left, holding spear and shield; shield decorated with gorgoneion / Tyche standing facing, head left, wearing kalathos, holding rudder and cornucopia. Nomos, Obolos 4, lot 683 (same dies); cf. SNG BN 2671-3 (same obv. die). Green patina that is chipped on the obverse, deposits, some cleaning scratches. VF. Very rare, possibly the second known. |
