PAMPHYLIA, Uncertain. Circa 220-180 BC. Fourrée Tetradrachm (30mm, 14.92 g, 11h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; no control marks. Cf. Price 2982 for prototype. Toned, minor roughness. Near EF.

There are many issues of Alexander type that were struck at various mints in the 3rd-2nd centuries BC, and they are primarily differentiated by style, combined with some hoard evidence. While the style and characteristics of the flan of the present piece suggest it is an attempt to copy the issue Price gives to Pamphylia, but it may also be from another region.

Closing Date and Time: 11 March 2020 at 10:35:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 18% buyer’s fee.
