Diocletian. AD 284-305. AR Argenteus (19mm, 3.04 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 294. Laureate head right / VICTORI A SARMAT, the four Tetrarchs sacrificing over tripod before city gate with six turrets; R. RIC VI 31a; Gautier, Argent 84; RSC 488f. Iridescent toning, minor deposits. EF. Rare issue with mintmark R; no coin like ours among the 529 Rome-mint argentei in the Sisak Hoard. This coin has in addition a different obverse legend break than the one in Vienna cited by RIC 31a.
