NORMAN. William I 'the Conqueror'. 1066-1087. AR Penny (19mm, 1.35 g, 6h). Two Scepters type (BMC iv). Gloucester mint; Leofwine, moneyer. Struck circa 1072-1074. Crowned facing bust; cross-tipped scepter to left, trefoil-tipped scepter to right / + LEOFPINE ON GLEPEI, cross fleurée, with annulet at center; all over cross botonnée in saltire. SCBI –; BMC –; North 844; SCBC 1253. Rich glossy find patina, slight crimp. EF. Well struck. Very rare.
