Domitian. As Caesar, AD 69-81. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.03 g, 5h). Rome mint. Struck under Titus, AD 80-81. Laureate head right / Minerva advancing right, brandishing spear and holding shield. RIC II.1 268 (Titus); RSC 381a. Lightly toned, some faint hairlines on reverse. Good Fine.

From the A. Short Collection, purchased 1 July 2021 from Silbury Coins. Ex Westbury Sub Mendip Hoard.

This coin is part of the Westbury Sub Mendip hoard of 188 Roman silver denari, found in May 2016 by a metal detectorist. The hoard was the subject of an archaeological excavation and was declared Treasure under The Treasure Act. With no museum wishing to acquire the coins they were returned to the finder and made available to private collectors.
