CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 425-415 BC. AR Nomos (21.5mm, 8.16 g, 4h). Taras, nude, extending left hand and holding octopus in his right, riding dolphin left; scallop shell below / Taras as Oikistes, his torso bare, wearing himation from his waist, seated left on stool, spindle balanced on extended right hand, left hand holding aryballos and strigilis. Fischer-Bossert Group 18, 278 (V127/R211); Vlasto, Taras, Type 53A; Vlasto 254 = Weber 537 (same dies); HN Italy 844; SNG ANS 860 (same dies); SNG Lloyd 142 (same dies); BMC 80 (same dies); de Luynes 288 (same dies). Medium iridescent tone, minor die wear, small delamination at edge on reverse. Good VF.
