CRUSADERS, Edessa. Baldwin II. Second reign, 1108-1118. Æ Follis (30mm, 7.50 g, 12h). Class 3. Soldier, in military attire, standing facing, holding sword and shield / Patriarchal cross with pelleted ends set on two steps; single and triple pellets flanking longest bar. Grierson, Coins of Medieval Europe, p. 101; Porteous, Early 29 = Porteous, Crusader I 6 (this coin referenced and illustrated); Metcalf, Crusades, p. 33; CCS 7. Dark green and brown patina, edge split. VF. Overstruck on a follis of Richard of Salerno (CCS 4). Very rare.
