‘Bohemia’s coinage in the last decades of the thirteenth century consisted of poor quality bracteates struck a nearly 20 petty mints. At the very end of the of century (1298) new and exceptionally rich deposits of silver were discovered at Kunta Hora (Kuttenberg), 40 miles east of Prague, and Wenceslas II whom a contemporary Prague chronicler compares to Croesus because of the wealth this brought him, determined to put it to good use. Three Italians accepted the invitation to Prague, and in July 1300 the new coinage they designed entered circulation…. The new coinage minted at Kunta Hora, consisted of a groat (pragergroschen] and two sided penny (parvus). The design of the groat was related to that of the gros tournois.’ Grierson, pp.168-69.
