‘A curious new coinage of the second half of the twelfth century is that of the counts of Sancerre, for the name of the locality was supposed to represent a canonzised Julius Caesar and coins have profile bust identified as IVLIVS CESAR, with either SACRVM CESARIS or a count’s name, around the cross on the reverse.’ Grierson, p. 88.
