A charming type depicting one of the greatest Holy Roman Emperors, Frederick I Barbarosa, enthroned on the obverse and, on the reverse, a view of the Imperial palace at Aachen, typical of other architectural types of this period with their ‘wonderfully elaborate patterns of tower, cupolas, walls and arcades.’ Grierson, p. 83.
