CYPRUS, Paphus. Roman Rule. Mid 1st century BC. Æ Dichalkon(?) (18mm, 3.03 g, 11h). Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right / Zeus Salaminios(?) standing left, holding scepter and grain ears. Svoronos –; Zapiti & Michaelidou 69 (Cleopatra VII?); Nicolaou Paphos II 469-509; Cox Curium 128; BMC Pl. LXXXI, 2. Dark brown patina with orange earthen highlights, casting sprues. Good Fine.

From the Ken Bressett Collection.

According to Cathy Lorber: “This variety seems more likely to belong to the interlude of Roman rule of Cyprus after the suicide of Ptolemy of Cyprus. That would explain the lack of a legend naming a Ptolemaic king.”
