Peter II introduced the croat and half-croat at Barcelona shortly before his death in 1285. These large coins of good silver and worth 12d were ‘continued essentially unchanged, over the next two centuries, and formed one of the most important currencies in the western Mediterranean.’ Grierson, p. 138.
