‘Under Henry VI there was struck what as to remain one of the most highly esteemed coins of the century: the salut d’or, having as obverse type a representation of the Annunciation above the shields of France and England. It owed its reputation at least in part to its convenience, for it was of the same weight and value as the gold florin and the English half-noble, but was also a coin of great beauty and charm.’ Grierson, p.193.
