SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch. Philip II. AD 247-249. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 11.64 g, 7h). Struck AD 249. Laureate and cuirassed bust left, with balteus and right pteryx visible; head of eagle on breastplate, and two pellets below pteryx / Eagle standing right, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; ANTIOXIA/S C in two lines in exergue. Prieur –; McAlee 1065c. Even porous surfaces, a few light scratches, minor verdigris on reverse. EF. Extremely rare, Prieur did not own his example when he published his book (see CNG E-Sale 451, lot 335), and only one, Prieur’s specimen, in CoinArchives. |
