Diocletian. AD 284-305. Æ Follis (27mm, 11.00 g, 7h). Londinium (London) mint. Struck circa AD 296-303. Laureate and cuirassed bust right / Genius standing left, holding patera and cornucopia. RIC VI 6a var. (bust type); C&T 2.01.003 var. (same); C&T Addenda –. Dark brown patina, minor porosity. Near EF. Extremely rare variety.

From the Rauceby Hoard, found in Lincolnshire (PAS ID LIN-F6D516; BM Ref. 2016 T649).

This obverse die is unrecorded in Cloke & Toone’s impressive catalogue of London mint coins. There is a similar die for Maximianus, C&T 2.01.007 (8)
