IONIA, Ephesos. Circa 390-325 BC. AR Tetradrachm (22.5mm, 15.15 g, 11h). Kallikrates, magistrate. Struck circa 350-340 BC. Bee with straight wings / Forepart of stag right, head left; palm tree to left, KAΛΛIKPATHΣ to right. Pixodarus Class G, obv. die 124 (unlisted for magistrate). Lightly toned, area of weak strike, obverse slightly off center. VF.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, purchased from Colosseum Coin Exchange, June 2004.

In Pixodarus, Kinns notes that Kallikrates’s reverses were known with obverse dies 123 and 125, so the appearance of his reverse paired with die 124 is not surprising.

Closing Date and Time: 8 April 2020 at 10:45:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 18% buyer’s fee.
