Steatite scarab with magical design. Lower Egypt. New Kingdoms Period. 1550-1050 BC. (18 mm) Cowroid with central bidirectional piercing for suspension. The back is plain, bordered with a simple linear pattern. On the face, a magical design for protection, invoking multiple depictions of the hieroglyphs for the crown of Lower Egypt, The lotus flower, the sign for god and a single sign for gold. Meaning suggested could be read “The eternal golden god Pharoah of Lower Egypt.”. VF.
