Lot of six (6) bronze crosses. Early Byzantine, 6th-7th centuries AD. (2.7-4.0 cm) Six Byzantine crosses. One very plain, without suspension loop. The others all have suspension loops, three ornamented with five circles. VF.

The five circles on three of the crosses represent the Five Wounds of Christ at the time of his crucifixion (i.e. the nail wounds in his hands, feet, and side). These are known also as the Five Sacred Wounds and the Five Precious Wounds. The wearer of the cross would be reminded of the Passion of Christ and the suffering he endured for the sake of the wearer of the cross.
