Terracotta counterfeiter’s mold. Roman, 4th century AD. (33 mm, 6.82 g). Part of a mold for casting coins, impressed on both sides with an obverse of Galerius as Caesar, imitating the style of later folles of Thessalonica and a Constantius I as Caesar follis from an uncertain mint. Cf. CNG E-334, lots 520-527 (for similar types). Small edge chip, otherwise intact. |
