PHOENICIA, Tyre. 126/5 BC-AD 65/6. AR Half Shekel (20mm, 6.59 g, 12h). Dated CY 160 (AD 34/5). Laureate head of Melkart right, lion skin around neck / Eagle standing left on prow; palm frond in background; to left, [P]Ξ (date) above club; to right, KP above monogram; uncertain letter between legs. DCA-Tyre 879; HGC 10, 358; DCA 922. Roughness and deposits, reverse off-center. Good VF.

The first letter of the date, P (100), is off the flan on this specimen, but the second letter Ξ (60) is visible; this civic year (16) conflates to AD 34/5. The year in which Jesus Christ was crucified is usually taken to be either AD 30/1 or 33/4; however Pontius Pilate was prefect in Judaea from AD 26 to 36/7, and the crucifixion could plausibly have taken place any year between 30 and 36.
