SYRIA, Uncertain Mint. Marcus Aurelius, Caesar. AD 139-161. Æ 26mm (8.70 g).
AURHLIOC KAICAP, bare-headed, draped bust right / [AVTOKP]ATOP ANTWNINOC SEB EVCEB, Antoninus Pius on horseback left, raising hand. BMC-; SNG Copenhagen-. VF, adjustment marks on obverse, dark brown patina with earthen encrustation.
There is no indication of a city name on this coin, just the names and titles of Aurelius and his adoptive father Antoninus Pius. Certain issues in their names have been attributed to Cyprus, which is a possibility with this coin. The hard reddish earthen encrustation is typical of the Syrian region, so a mint site on the mainland is also a high probability.
