CELTIC. Bronze Protome, probably chariot rein harness. 2nd-1st century BC. Overall dimension 95x72x32mm. Solid cast figure ending in abstract image of bull or horse head with body forming socket for reins, end containing remnant of hole for attachment to mechanism. The “coffee bean” eyes and broad shovel-shaped muzzle resemble the horses on Celtic gold staters. Good condition, dark green patina. A massive piece of solid casting.
