Michael VIII Palaeologus. 1261-1282. Æ Trachy (26mm, 3.20g). Virgin Mary enthroned; high backed throne with B’s / Emperor and winged St. Michael standing facing. DOC V 59; SB 2263; Bendall 24. Good VF for type, dark green patina. Either double struck or struck with overlapped half dies; the two reverse figure have been joined in a way that makes it appear the emperor is winged.
