Magnia Urbica. Wife of Carinus, Augusta, AD 283-285. Antoninianus (22mm, 3.17 g). Rome mint. Diademed and draped bust right, resting on a crescent / Venus standing left, holding helmet and sceptre; shield at her side; KAS. RIC V 243. Near VF, brown patina. Scarce.
From the C. G. Collection.
No historical record exists of the lady Magnia Urbica, but coins and medallions link her to the emperor Carinus, as apparently the last of his nine wives (according to the scurrilous account of the Historia Augusta).
