PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II (Physcon). Second reign, 145-116 BC. Æ 35mm (35.40 g). Cyprus mint. Diademed head of Zeus right / Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, sceptre over shoulder, lotus flower in left field. Svoronos 1636; Weiser -; SNG Copenhagen -; Noeske 298. VF, dark brown patina, some light smoothing on the reverse.

From the J.S. Wagner Collection.

Another series of lotus marked bronzes is attributed to Ptolemy VI (cf. Svoronos 1403-1405). This coin is subtly different to the published specimens of either series, especially in the rendition of the lotus flower. Perhaps another issue?
