IONIA, Ephesus (?). Trajan. AD 98-117. Æ 30mm (15.42 g). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Parthian captive seated left on shield, arms around, trophy behind. BMC Ionia -; SNG von Aulock -; SNG Copenhagen -. Fine, dark greenish-brown patina, rough surfaces.
From the J.S. Wagner Collection.
The reverse type is the same as BMC p. 76, 223, but the only readable part of the legend- beginning EPI CTPA- is not found on coins of Ephesus, and the city identification must remain uncertain.
