MACEDON, Chalkidian League. Circa 432-348 BC. AR Tetradrachm (13.77 g, 1h). Olynthos mint; Apollodoro[s], magistrate. Struck circa 390 BC. Laureate head of Apollo right / Kithara, base molding inscribed APOLLOD[WRO], in incuse square. Cf. Robinson & Clement group F; SNG ANS -; cf. CNG 69, 126 for another coin of this magistrate. VF, lightly toned, some cleaning scratches, granular surfaces, minor roughness at edge. Extremely rare, apparently the third known of this magistrate.

This magistrate was unknown in the series until the CNG 69 piece revealed that the coins in Robinson & Clement that were struck with reverse die P5 were too worn to display his signature. As this signature falls into group F, that group may need to be downdated to the timeframe of the other signed-die groups N-X (circa 358-348 BC). However, other coins in group F are well enough preserved to show the absence of the signature, so these signed dies may simply be aberrations within the early unsigned groups.
