IONIA, Ephesos. Circa 350-340 BC. AR Drachm (3.65 g, 1h). Mnesarchos, magistrate. Bee with straight wings; astragali flanking / Forepart of stag right; palm tree to left,
MNHSARCOS to right. Pixodarus p. 191; Gorny & Mosch 115, 1176. EF, attractively toned. Extremely rare issue, and among the finest.
These drachms of type similar to the late Classical period tetradrachms were all struck during Kinn’s period G. Although a number reside in museum collections (SNG Copenhagen 240; SNG Kayhan 277; SNG München 50; SNG Fitzwilliam 4417), they are extremely rare in the marketplace.
