This coin is from the earliest issue of Cnut’s coinage at Bath. Blackburn and Lyon note that the early bust style at Bath (style A) was of high artistic quality compared to contemporary issues of other mints, but was short-lived, being replaced by dies of typically crude style (Bath B).
