Sextus Pompey. 42-40 BC. AR Denarius (3.72 g, 1h). Uncertain Sicilian mint. Quinquereme adorned with aquila, scepter, and trident sailing left before the Pharos of Messana, decorated with a statue of Neptune / The monster Scylla, her torso consisting of dogs and fishes, wielding a rudder as a club. Crawford 511/4a-c; CRI 335 or 335a; Sydenham 1348; RSC 2 or 2a-b. Good VF, toned, typical compact flan, small edge chip, and scrape on edge.
