The Peribleptos Monastery, located in Constantinople, was dedicated to the Theotokos. Its church was built between 1030 and 1034 by the emperor Romanus III and served as his place of burial. Continued imperial benefaction and the monastic community’s possession of important relics ensured a steady flow of pilgrims to the monastery.
