CILICIA, Tarsos. Mazaios. Satrap of Cilicia, 361/0-334 BC. AR Stater (23mm, 10.94 g, 10h). Baaltars seated left, head facing, holding eagle in right hand, scepter in left / Lion attacking bull left. Casabonne series 2, group F; SNG Levante 101. Superb EF, excellent style. More refined style than the more commonly encountered types (e.g. SNG Levante 106).

Struck from elaborate, masterfully engraved dies. Perhaps an earlier issue of Mazaios, it captures the artistic traditions both of the Achaemenid east and Greek west.
