180, Lot: 219. Estimate $100.
Sold for $169. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Trajan. AD 98-117. Æ Dupondius (26mm, 12.67 g). Rome mint. Struck AD 99-100. Radiate head right / TR POT COS III, S C, Abundantia seated left on chair of two crossed cornucopia, holding scepter. Cf. RIC II 411; cf. BMCRE 734; cf. Cohen 629. Good VF, green patina, a few spots of smoothed red verdigris.

The reverse appears to omit the usual PP at the end of the legend and there are three clear strokes after COS. COS I PP wouldn’t be correct, and COS II P would also be wrong. There are a few scratches around the end of the legend, perhaps this was a COS II (RIC 385) that someone incorrectly added another stroke to.
