THESSALY, Thessalian League. Circa 196-27 BC. AR Stater (5.84 g, 11h). Petraios and Ptolemaios, magistrates. Struck circa 48/7-45/4 BC. Head of Zeus right, wearing laurel wreath / Athena Itonia advancing right; ΠETP-AIOY above spear, ΠTOΛEMAIO[Σ] in exergue. McClean -; SNG Copenhagen 290. EF, lightly toned.

Petraios, strategos of the League, son of Themistogenes of Gyrton, was an ardent supporter of Julius Caesar (Caes., BC III, 35), and was executed by Brutus in 44 BC (Cic., Phil. 13. 33).
