Commodus. As Caesar, AD 166-177. AV Aureus (7.21 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 177. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / DE GERM in exergue, cuirass, shields, spears, and other arms. RIC III 633 (Aurelius) var. (bust type); MIR 18, 396-12/37; Calicó 2236 (this coin illustrated). EF, areas of minor edge smoothing. Well centered and struck on a broad flan. Wonderful portrait.
